In June 2014 the Fargo-based company Evolution1, an industry leader in consumer directed health (CDH) payments and technology, was sold to the commercial company WEX Inc. for $532.5 million.ev1_newlogo

Just a few days ago, on January 12, 2015, WEX announced that Evolution1 was the recipient of multiple Mobile Star Awards for its 1Mobile application. These Stars, which are given annually to honor the best mobile products of the year, are a well-recognized sign of accomplishment according to Jon Covington, founder and CEO of the MobileVillage, the hosts of the event.

“Mobile is the fourth great wave of computing, and there are now millions of mobile products competing for our attention,” Covington said. “Mobile Star Awards winners and nominees stand out from this crowd as the star innovators to watch and follow.”

1Mobile, according to the website, “provides healthcare account access anywhere, anytime.” The product has seen great success over the past year, doubling both unique users and transactions. In December, 1Mobile reached 65,000 unique users and 300,000 logins, according to the website.

Apart from this recent accomplishment, we caught up with Evolution1 to hear more about what the company has been up to since the acquisition, and how this impacts the Fargo community.

Q. What was the main interest of the buyer in Evolution1’s product/business?

Through the acquisition of Evolution1, WEX will build on its existing B2B (business to business) business model, providing payment services to intermediaries such as exchanges and third party administrators (TPA) that have direct contact with consumers.

Q. How has the acquisition affected the Fargo location?

A. No jobs were eliminated because of the acquisition, and our Fargo location continues to grow. Evolution1 and our network of partner organizations serve 90,000 employers and more than 10 million consumers across the country. Evolution1 employs approximately 300 people across offices in Fargo; Hartford, Connecticut; Minneapolis, Minnesota; and St. Louis, Missouri.

Q. What can Evolution1 bring to the Fargo community?

A. Opportunity! Right now there are more than 30 positions open at Evolution1, with one-third of those positions in Fargo. We encourage people to check out our website, www.evolution1.com, to learn more. Evolution1 is proud to call Fargo “home”, and we are happy to give back to the community through our support of area non-profit organizations and our team members’ volunteer efforts.

Q. How can the Fargo community give back to Evolution1?

A. We’re grateful for the support the Fargo metro area has shown us, and we look forward to that support continuing as we continue to grow as a company.
