The final hours of a Kickstarter campaign must be nerve wracking. The clock is ticking, the final funding goal is on the line, and it’s all or nothing – so close, so close.

Kyle Weik and Chad Close, co-creators of the Beach Interactive game On My Own, experienced these intense final moments on Monday as their Kickstarter campaign had 27 hours to go, and $217 left in funds. Then it was 14 hours to go, and $30 to fund. And then, they met their $2,500 goal. And then they exceeded it.

At last, yesterday afternoon with 231 backers and a total of $2,856 in funds, the campaign successfully closed.

On My Own Thank You

The Emerson & Thoreau enthusiast backpacker celebrates the success.

Incredible! We did it, thank you all very much for your support!” the team sent out in an e-mail.

The money, according to the Kickstarter page, will cover licenses and fees for On My Own, with most of the money going towards the purchase of Unity Pro – a software development kit that will allow Weik and Close to add more features and polish up the game design.

Some interesting tid-bits on Kickstarters themselves: Kickstarters have a 38.9% success rate. On My Own joins, as of today, a total of 80,002 successful projects out of 214,149 total projects launched. Overall, a whopping total of $1.59 billion dollars has been pledged to Kickstarter campaigns, with $1.35 billion of that going to a successfully funded campaign.

On My Own was also chosen as a Kickstarter staff favorite, Weik said.

Be sure to catch Kyle Weik this morning at 1 Million Cups, 9:15 AM at the Stage at Island Park! (And if you haven’t heard, this is going to be happening as well!)
