What impact has EDA had on you?

It’s been one of the best things I’ve ever done with my life. It was the reset button I’d desperately needed, and it taught me so much about myself and what I’m capable of.

What has been the biggest lesson you have learned?

I’ve grown so much from this experience, it’s hard to pick just one lesson that sticks out. I think the big thing I keep coming back to is that the stress of learning something new and working so hard on school is still nothing compared to the stress I went through working at jobs I had no passion for. Growing into a career you’re passionate about is worth the pressure.

What is your favorite memory from EDA?

It’s a tie between hitting Cowboy Jacks with the EP staff after the Cultivate conference for free food and drinks on the patio, and all of the ridiculous things that Zeke and Travis have said in class. “I need to stop looking at pictures of ravioli.”

If you were to give advice to someone considering applying to EDA, what would you say?

Absolutely go for it! The worst they can say is no, and the alternative is that you get a life-changing learning experience that includes lots of free snacks and drink lots of free coffee. You’re going to get the full experience here. They don’t just teach you how to code, the also teach you how to be a professional. And how to make a whole webpage spin using CSS. Thanks, Blaine!

What advice do you have for the next cohort?

It’s gonna get intense sometimes. Impostor syndrome is real, and it’s easy to get discouraged. Reach out to your classmates and the EDA staff, they’re here to cheer you on and help you succeed. Remember that you got accepted because they see your potential. And if you enjoy what you’re learning, those 60 hour weeks that happen in Tier 2 don’t feel so bad.
