Clever Mukori, a Concordia College graduate and native of Zimbabwe, is creating a web-based platform that will revolutionize the education industry called Learn or Teach. The culmination of Mukori’s life journey from Africa to the United States and the pursuit to help those less fortunate led to the creation of Learn or Teach. “I was privileged to have my family sacrifice for my education… now I am on a mission to impact as many people as possible with the power of education through Learn or Teach,” explained Mukori.

The Idea

Throughout his life, Mukori has considered himself driven by the concept of social entrepreneurship. The creation of Learn or Teach is the fruition of many iterations of addressing problems in the world with the potential of technology. “While in college, I entered into an app competition to produce a creative and accessible platform that would help kids… I realized that the biggest problem to be solved was accessibility,” said Mukori.

The importance of accessibility has led Mukori to keep Learn or Teach free for all users on the educational platform. “I see our online platform as the ‘Uber’ of online learning where everyone can create content and everyone can access the information for free,” explained Mukori. In the future, Mukori envisions the educational offerings to include topics from grade school basics to collegiate majors.

Blueprint for the Future

Arriving at Concordia in the fall of 2015, Mukori began the process to take Learn or Teach from idea to product. During his studies, one professor had digitized everything for his class, which gave Mukori the final piece to solve the problem of a free and effective educational platform. “I realized that there is not a one-size-fits-all education model for all students…. I knew that my product needed to be adaptable to different needs of communities globally with a guide of progressive steps to follow,” said Mukori.

By December 2017, Mukori had created the website wireframes for the future product. “I know what problem I am looking to solve… I am in the process now of engaging programmers and fundraising for high-quality educational content for the website,” explained Mukori. Some of the first users will include collaboration with Mukori’s former professor that provided inspiration in the past.

With the motto of ‘Learn anything and teach anything,’ Mukori hopes to disrupt the educational industry with worldwide impact by establishing learning communities. These communities may take advantage of local government entities such as libraries or private sector investment for educational access. “It will take time, but it is my goal to replicate this concept worldwide… I know that whatever difference I make, no matter how small, it is worth doing it,” said Mukori.
