Sharing entrepreneurial ideas with 1 Million Cups Fargo

It’s official. More coffees have been served, and no one is complaining. 1 Million Cups Fargo is celebrating its second successful week in the books after what can be best described as an educational pitch from Sarah English and her team at Beach Interactive. The group is disrupting standardized language learning curriculums by creating an interactive video game designed to teach French via game play.

Don’t be confused. English uses her French knowledge to create a game that home-schooled students and independent learners would actually want to play. The Beach Interactive team has developed the concept, now called The Abettor’s Letters, based on role-playing game (RPG) scenarios. Players have the ability to solve mysteries and save the entirety of France, all while learning the nation’s language. English says once a demo is completed, it will be available for iPad and PC. The team then plans to showcase this product to potential investors who can assist in taking the game to an even higher level.

The Fargo-Moorhead community showed its support in both numbers and questions at 1 Million Cups last Wednesday. Audience membership continued to increase after the first successful event featuring David Batcheller of Appareo Systems, LLC, and the questions posed to English were constructive from a business standpoint. Target markets, funding options, and game play capabilities were just some of the topics mentioned during this lively discussion. The event ended with breakouts into conversations among the community members and optimism for English and her team as they make the final tweaks to their product design.

1 Million Cups is a nationwide movement that was initiated in April, 2012, by Kauffman Labs for Enterprise Creation at the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. Its goal is to promote entrepreneurship and spur startup community growth simply over weekly cups of coffee. With Fargo’s induction into this national network, the movement now includes 26 U.S. locations featuring innovative ideas and startup discussions every week.

We continue with 1 Million Cups Fargo this Wednesday, February 5, at 9:00am in the Plains Art Museum. This week, Blaine Booher is stepping up to present Clifton Labs. Booher’s company is growing quickly, and it is now calling Fargo its home in order to help businesses with their operations technology and software needs. Be prepared for good company, good conversation, and good coffee courtesy of Danielson Legal, LLC. Register for this week’s event or sign up to give a pitch at a future event here.
