Tell us about your company and your mission.

“Heroes Compass is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to empowering heroes in our community, including military veterans, police officers, firefighters, and first responders.

Our Mission: To provide essential resources, support, and community for our heroes, empowering them to lead healthy and fulfilling lives.

Our Vision: A world where every hero receives the respect, care, and opportunities they deserve, leading to stronger, more resilient communities.

On average there are 22 suicides a day by veterans and active duty military members. We are on a mission to bring that number down to 0. Heroes Compass plays a crucial role in filling gaps in our community by addressing the unique challenges faced by military veterans, police officers, firefighters, and first responders.”

What are some wins you are celebrating?

“We are celebrating our first full year being a nonprofit; from brainstorming and dreaming of creating it, to making our vision a reality. Throughout this year we have learned a lot about the heart of our community and the incredible willingness of our fellow Fargoans to step up when others are in need.

We are celebrating helping the four Fargo police officers’ families in partnership with Sandy’s Donuts, as well as celebrating our 2nd annual Walk To Remember where we raised awareness of the 22 military suicides a day and the reminder that no soldier walks alone. We are celebrating a partnership with EHP Performance and raising funds for adaptive equipment for disabled veterans through our Ruck to Remember.”

What is the most important lesson you’ve learned throughout your entrepreneurial journey?

“The most important lesson I’ve learned throughout my entrepreneurial journey with Heroes Compass is the transformative power of community and collaboration. Building a nonprofit from the ground up requires more than just a vision. It demands a network of support, shared values, and a collective commitment to a greater cause.

I’ve come to understand that the impact we make is magnified when we bring people together. When individuals, businesses, and the community unite to support our heroes, that collaboration amplifies our ability to create positive change, whether it’s in the form of mental health programs, community events, or providing essential services for those who have served.

Heroes Compass has taught me that the strength of a community lies not only in its individuals but in the connections and relationships forged between them. The shared mission becomes a catalyst for meaningful change and fostering a sense of purpose and belonging.

In essence, the journey with Heroes Compass has underscored the profound truth that collective efforts can achieve far more than individual endeavors. This lesson has not only shaped the way I approach entrepreneurship but has also become a guiding principle in our mission to empower and support our heroes.”

Heroes Compass is officially a part of the Fargo-Moorhead founder family. How can our community support you in your next stage of growth?

“One of the ways to help support Heroes Compass in our next stage of growth is to help fulfill our mission and serve those who serve. As a newer nonprofit, we are bootstrapped and finding funds from sponsorship, grants, and donations is always difficult. Another way is to help volunteer at our events or offering your unique skill set to growing our nonprofit.

Another way you can help is by scheduling it on your calendar as a recurring reminder to check in on a hero in our community. See how they are really doing. When you are close to someone, you are one of the first people to recognize something might be wrong in their life either mentally or physically. Looking after one another in our community is a simple yet life changing way to show support.”

What are you grateful for today?

“We are grateful for the opportunity to raise awareness of the unique challenges our heroes in our community face. Our heroes give so much without recognition and we are thankful for them today. We are thankful for a platform like StartupBREW to showcase our nonprofit on a bigger platform and extending our reach to help more people. Community matters, and we’ve seen time and time again that the Fargo-Moorhead community steps up when it’s needed. We are thankful for that.”
