This week, Tech.Co announced that Botlink and Sky Blue Technology have been selected as the 2015 semifinalists for their annual Startup of the Year competition!

The two teams will travel to Las Vegas for the annual Tech Cocktail conference on October 4- 6, where they will pitch to an audience of investors and compete against other startups from across the nation, for the title of Startup of the Year.

The two were the final choice out of 11 applicants out of Fargo. Not long before the choices were made, less than ten startups had applied – prompting John Machacek from the Fargo-Moorhead Economic Development Corporation to place a bet. If at least ten Fargo startups applied, he would dress as Elvis and announce the winners.

Needless to say, this happened.

What is the Startup of the Year competition?

Every year, Tech Cocktail (a Tech.Co production) hosts an online competition for Startup of the Year. It starts with competitions in selected regions, from San Francisco to Vancouver to Fargo, before moving to a final competition called Celebrate, which lasts for 3 days in Las Vegas and gives startups a chance to pitch their ideas to a large audience.

Last year two of Fargo’s startups, Booth and Medytex, competed in Las Vegas for the Startup of the Year title. The Greater Fargo-Moorhead Economic Development Corporation provides financial backing for the trips, and plans to do so this year as well.

Congrats, Botlink and Sky Blue Technology!
