Meet David, a current student of Emerging Digital Academy’s Gosling cohort!

Where were you born and where did you grow up?

I was born in Austin, Texas. As for where I grew up, it’s a bit of a mixed bag. I moved from Texas to Indiana, from Indiana back to Texas, from there to Minneapolis,
from Minneapolis to a farm in South Dakota, and from there to Fargo.

Why Emerging Digital Academy?

I chose to enroll at EDA because I was tearing my body apart at my last job.

What were you doing before joining EDA?

I was working as a warehouse employee at a furniture store.

What’s your ideal occupation after graduating from EDA? Are there any companies you would love to work for?

My ideal occupation is a backend developer initially, with a dream of going to work on embedded systems. My dream job would have to be Facebook, Google, or Amazon. After spending some time in EDA, I learned just how innovative those companies are and the ability to learn from those engineers would be a dream come true.

What’s the most interesting or surprising part about your time at Emerging Digital Academy so far?

I am surprised by how much I can learn in such a short amount of time!

What are your hobbies outside of the coding academy?

My hobbies outside of EDA are reading sc-fi, fantasy, and horror books.

Is there any advice you’d give to somebody thinking about joining Emerging Digital Academy?

I recommend learning vanilla javascript. And don’t skimp out on learning CSS – it will save you hours and hours!
